What you should know before you rely on a result
GeoTerva is a set of calculation tools for qualified engineers and technical professionals. It helps you set up a problem, run a recognised method, see the working and prepare a report. It is not an engineering service, it does not act as the engineer of record, and it does not replace professional judgement, site investigation, laboratory testing, the codes and standards that apply, or independent checking.
- The method and the inputs decide the result. The Theory tab of each module states the method, its sources, its assumptions and its limits. Before you rely on a result, check that the method suits your problem, that every input and unit is right, and that the result is reasonable, for example by a hand check or an independent calculation.
- You remain responsible for the design decisions you make with the results, for compliance with the codes, standards and regulations that apply to your project and place, and for any certification or sealing that your profession requires. Your professional responsibility does not pass to GeoTerva.
- Results can contain errors. We document our methods and test the modules, but no software is free of errors, and methods and code change over time. If a result looks wrong, tell us at info@geoterva.com and we will look into it.
- Decisions where a failure could endanger people or property must not rest on a result from GeoTerva alone. They need review by a qualified professional who is responsible for them.
Where to find the details
- The Theory tab of each module sets out the method, its sources, its assumptions and its limits.
- The Manual explains each module's inputs, results and messages.
- The Terms of Service state how responsibility is shared (sections 10, 11 and 12).
